Evaluation script

Music Magazine - Evaluation
From the research that I gathered I decided that I would create a rock music magazine. Whilst doing the research I have found that they were usually aimed towards the older teens to young adults. It is this age range of 15 - 34 that appears to be most interested in the bands which are included in the rock genre. The members of rock bands also tend to be slightly younger resulting in a younger target audience being brought in.  I will also aim my magazine to this same age range as it is this age range of people from 15-34 who are most interested in this genre of music. The rock magazines I have looked at are aimed at both males and females. This is shown through their use of colours and the bands they have shown. I am going to aim my magazine to both males and females so as that it will have a wider target audience. By having the target audience as both it puts no restrictions onto creating the magazine. I created my rock music magazine to appeal to people with a rock 'n' roll image who are more edge. This was because in all the magazines I looked at all the bands and people in the magazine were casually dressed or sometimes smart casual. It also helps to show the idea that the audience viewing these types of magazine are very much normal everyday people with chilled out attitudes and simple opinions. Their interests were mostly on popular rock bands and their ways of life. I incorporated this into my double page spread article by discussing the normal everyday things which people will face. This could be seen through their use of informal language. So when I created my magazine I used a relaxed tone and included the normal everyday problems which people would face such as missing home. I also used darker colours to portray the idea that the rock genre involves a lot of anger and heightens any emotion. They also were mostly interested in the general idea of rock music and all that involved. The audience of people looking at these types of magazine also had interests in gigs and new music releases. I involved this into my magazine by including these ideas into my article. When planning my music magazine I made sure that it would appeal to a wide spectrum of readers. I made it so that it would appeal to the older teenagers who tend to be more open to a wide variety of music bands. The magazine appeals to a specific audience because it will discuss stories that are relevant to people who listen to and are interested by rock music and its background. Kerrang! Identifies its audience as ‘individually minded, independent of thought and musically experienced, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty’. It is people who are like this that my magazine will also most appeal to so I made sure that when writing the double page spread article that I had information relevant to peoples passion of rock music and will remain on the topic of rock music. Most of the target audience for rock music magazines will be very contemporary and up to date with their looks. The writers of the Kerrang magazine have said 'It is the edgy, underground and individualistic style which appeals to rock readers and draws them in, this is a crucial element of any successful magazine'. I tried to use this advice when I created my magazine by using edgy and unique font styles and images which reflected the attitudes of the majority of its target audience.
I used a male band and used a male model as the focus of the magazine as male bands are the most popular in the rock music genre. Out of all the magazines I looked at and analysed a large percentage used male bands. Even those that didn't made the women look much more masculine.

When conducting my research into other magazines I found that there were many conventions which most magazines kept to. I tried to apply some of these conventions into my work.
I used a short and memorable title (AmpOverload) that was relevant to the rock music genre. This is a general convention that is used in rock magazines. I did this so as that the magazine would be recognisable and memorable. I made this title large and put it in block colour so as that it was clear and stood out. The photograph was the main subject of my cover and was a representation of the rock music genre. This is a convention because it is used in all music magazines of all genres. It is also able to convey the message and heighten any emotion that is included through the use of facial expressions and colours in the image.  I used bright colours throughout the magazine and in my cover in the use of fonts. This was to appeal to the younger target audience and to make the magazine standout. However a convention that is usually used in music magazine covers is thumbnail images. I chose not to use this too much as when conducting my research I found that many of the rock magazines did not conform to the usual conventions of music magazines. So I chose to use my research and to apply just the relevant text to the cover of my page. I also included a price and a bar code on my magazines cover I did that as if this were a real magazine those features would be needed.
When creating my contents page I also followed and applied many generic conventions. I had the title 'contents' located at the top of the page inside a block colour box. I kept to this convention as it is able to identify the page and looks very bold so stands out. I used a house style in my work in order to make my magazine link continually and fluently. I used a continual colour scheme throughout the contents page and all the pages which I created. This was so as that all the pages would link together as one magazine. I was able to use the colour scheme to separate pieces of information. For example in my contents page I used red as the main headings and subheadings this was because the red would standout strongly above the other colours, I then used yellow to show the remain contextual information as the yellow still stood out but the headings was still able to standout.  I followed the convention of using dark and bright colours throughout the magazine. In the NME magazine cover which I analysed a mixture of reds, blacks, yellows and whites have been used this is to standout and to attract the target audience. In order to have structure to magazines the strap lines are usually located on the sides of the page. I have also done this. I was able to place the strap lines around the main image to keep structure. The strap lines are also able to relate each of the pages I created together.
I placed the bar code on the right hand side of the page as this is how most magazines would position them. Going from the preliminary task to the production of the magazine I have learnt that I need to consider the target audience in each and every aspect of the production of the magazine. I have also learnt how colour schemes need to work together to give a certain message or to convey certain meanings. For example dark reds and blacks can show anger which is usually associated with the rock music genre. I have also learnt that everything that I include must be perfect and has to be done for a certain purpose. For example the font size and styles that I selected had to show and represent the message I was trying to convey in my music magazine which was the idea that rock music isn't all angry and loud but that it is just a group of normal everyday people who enjoy the music and a good time.
I think that my sort of magazine would be distributed by large companies such as IPC media this is because they are very wide and well know. IPC media are known as the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher who engages with 26m UK adults - almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men. This means that they are able to get a lot of publicity making the magazines become more popular and making it reach larger audiences. IPC say that they aim to deliver exceptional value, service, innovation and creativity this would be good for the publication of a rock music magazine because a magazine is very creative and will become very popular. Although IPC publish a number of magazines they only publish a limited number of music magazines. Therefore I think that having a company such as IPC to publish my magazine would be very beneficial for both me and the company.
From having constructed my magazine I have been able to learn a lot about technologies.
When collecting images to put onto my magazine pages I had use a camera to shoot multiple photos shoots. The camera that I used was a digital camera meant that I was able to instantly upload my images to the computer in a few simple steps. I was also able to see my image once I had taken them which meant that I was able to delete any images I no longer needed or that I felt were not suitable to put in the magazine. The fact that it was a digital camera was also very beneficial in the fact that I was able to take images with the effects on rather than having to edit the images to fully in Photoshop later. This was a skill I was able to gain through the production of my preliminary task.  When taking photos for my preliminary task I stuck to one shot and used little imagination in taking the images however going onto the real task I was able to use a range of shots and locations in order to making the magazine more attractive and appealing.
In the construction of my magazine I used the Photoshop software multiple times in order to edit my images to make them more suitable to be put onto a rock music magazine. Photoshop allowed me to add certain effects and to fix little pieces of the images that I had previously taken. Photoshop allowed me to make these changes very quickly so was very good to use in the construction of my music magazine. The image I used on my front cover originally looked very dull as the colours did not standout of the image. In order to improve this I was able to use Photoshop to autocorrect the colours and to then increase the colour intensity. The difference between this task and the preliminary task is that I was able to use more of a variety of techniques to make the images more appealing through different techniques I was also able to make the images appeal to its correct target audience.
Another technology that I was able to use when putting my magazine together was a user interface called Microsoft Publisher. I was able to use this technology in order to do the actual construction of the magazine. On this interface I created the layout of the magazine including areas for the mast head and the article. Once I had finished the editing of my images and the creation of my mast head I was able to put all the pages together in order to complete the magazine. When I created the preliminary task I used publisher to just collect the image and text together in one place. However in my real task I learnt that I was able to use the publisher to change my images in small ways E.G. the brightness. I used this in a image I included in my contents page to darn an image.
Having created my preliminary tasks school magazine I was able to learn a lot about the layout of the magazine and the actual content that needs to be included. Considering these things when I was creating my real magazine was very beneficial as I was able to know exactly where to position certain aspects of the page such as the straplines and mast head. I was also able to make sure I considered the target audience more effectively so that the magazine would appeal to a certain target audience. For example when I  created the preliminary task i made sure i only used information which was relevant to people of a certain age range and of a certain social groups. I also did this in my music magazine by the use of colour, images and the stories I included in the main article.
Magazine Analysis
The main image that I used is of a rock musician. The image is able to relate to the front cover as some of the strap lines relate to the band. I used a medium shot in the photograph this was so that the person could be shown in more detail, the shot also allowed you to see the model and to see who he was as the image tells you something about him through his appearance: hair style, stretchers, tattoos and clothing these are all things which are able to help the audience relate to the magazine and are very important in the rock Genre. The person in the image is dressed very casually in a very unique fashion style; this is able to show how rock music has its own individual identity that is unlike anything else. The colours I have used where red, yellow and white, these colours are able to work well to make the magazines very colour and standout so as that they attract an audience. The strap lines I decided to use where very simple and gave away little information this was so that people would know what was included in the magazine but would still read on. However I used one strap line which was a quote from the main article this is to relate to the image I used and the double page spread. I set out the page so that the title was located at the top of the page this made the title easy to see as it is the first thing people are likely to see this is also why I chose to use a big bold font. This is also how my magazine will be recognised. The image is framed in the middle of the page which leaves no empty space. The image again also takes up the main space. This is because for the cover of a magazine the text should be very simple so as that the image is able to pull in the attention and the text can give some minimum insight into the content of the magazine. By the small pieces of text being moved towards the side of the page it means that are eyes are drawn mostly to the image in the middle of the page.  The language I used was very simple this was so people could easily understand it and could instantly know what to expect from the magazine.
I applied my house style to the whole of the magazine. The colour scheme that I used on the content page is the same as i used on the cover and the double spread this is able to link the magazine together to show a flow between the pages. This page is set up with all the text and the images separated onto different sides of the page. This gives the page some structure and makes it easier for the readers to read the information. However the image is made to standout over the text as they take up about two thirds of the page. All Subheadings for articles from within the article are written in a bolder text with all the extra information written in a smaller font. This is written in a smaller font as it is considered less important that the rest of the text.  The colour red has been used to highlight the background on certain pieces of text. The colour red is able to make these pieces of writing standout. The target audience was involved with the contents page as I included a competition to win a chance to see a band live. This is able to make the audience look through the magazine and helps them gain an interest in the magazine. The images on the contents page shows an image which is related to article within the magazine. In the image the people all have their hands in their pockets this shows how they are laid back and relaxed. A casual feeling is also put across by the fact that each of the band members is wearing casual clothing. By showing each of the band members in casual clothes it is able to show how they each have a unique and different identity and personality.
The double page has nearly got an equal amount of text to images ratio. This is because both are being given equal importance to each other. It is also because the image is there just to accompany the text so both together are able to give insight into the bands lives. The heading of the double page spread is written in a larger font to the rest of the page this is so that it will stand out. I also chose to highlight one of the words in the title by putting it in a different colour and putting it in a larger font size. The colour red has connotations of both love and danger so I used red to highlight the word as it tells you about the bands experiences. I have used a collage of images as well as a larger main image. These smaller images have been used as each of the images is able to convey a different meaning and story which relates to the band but is also able to relate to the audience. All the smaller images together tell one huge narrative and can give insight into the band and their identity. The language used is relaxed and informal which is because I aimed the magazine to a certain target audience of people who love and enjoy life but don't take it too seriously. In the article it told a story which makes it easier for the audience to relate to the band and is able to make the article interesting and easier to read and understand.

Audience feedback

Target audience feedback

From conducting my research and asking my friends about their own tastes in music I found that those who were most into the rock genre conveyed a certain image through their appearance and the way that they dressed. They seemed to be the friends who liked to dressed very casually rather than dressing to impress. From asking m,y friends and peers I also found t hat they tended to have a varied like in musicians, some went for the heavier bands such as Foo Fighters whilst others went for softer groups like muse and the killers. When I asked them what storied they tended to read in music magazines many of them said that they liked hearing personnel secrets from the musicians whilst others said that they liked stories they are able to relate with. I also asked them whether they wouild be open to reading a new music magazine that was released. Many said they tended to stick to buying reading the same magazines each time. However when I basked how they could be persuaded to read a new magazine they said that they would read magazines that their frtiends had read or ones that featured their faviorate bands of muscicians on the front page.

Contents Based

This is one of the contents pages that I chose to base my own magazine on. I wanted to look at this magazine mostly for its layout. In this contemnts page I liked how there were many images included which were clearly from very different people and are able to represent many things. I plan to use this idea in my work by taking a variety of images which I am able to link to the rock genre to represent the people in the image and also the target audience of my magazine. The colour that I plan to use are similar to those in this contents as I plan to use a mixture of red, yellow and black fof the background and text parts of the page.

article

Three year's after Aera Cura’s collaboration together, the British band are set to Record a second album—Sweet Desires! Which is due to be released in the early start of 2014. It is sure to be a great one. Guitarist Ryan Jefferson explains the role homesickness, a rock guitar and the partying played in the making of their band.
‘’Our best ideas don't come from feeling the beat, they come from flukes and slip ups. Sometimes we will just play a wrong chord or hit the wrong snare and then a couple of days later we are in the recording studio ready to make a new album. Its just all down to one of us making a small error’’. Who’d of known that something this great could be created by such experts huh.
So we all know what its like to be away from home for a couples of days. Well what if you were away for months at a time. Well lets hear how our top musician George can deal with  this little dilemma.  ‘’ well I hate being away from my family. But when I was younger my mother would always give me this little coin to take with me. She would always tell me the story about the day that my grandmother had given it to her on the day that she gave birth to me. So I guess that’s how I really cope with missing it back home.’’ Ahh, you guys who were thinking George was a big tough guy, well your wrong, he’s just a big softy at heart.
‘’The first guitar I ever got given was a Ibanez RGA8 8-String. It was a gift I was given from an uncle who worked  for Ibanez. It was pretty sweet ;I would never have even dreamed of getting such an amazing guitar even once the albums started to kick off. I’m just a pretty lucky guy  I guess.’’
‘’Don’t forget to check out our new EP guys, it would be pretty awesome if we could finally reach a top sale for this album’’ Something tells me these guys aren’t going to have a problem.

annotation of photographs

This image has used multiple focus as it makes us focus on both the person and the drum kit band the green day sign. This is done through the use of foreground and background which is able to make the size of certain parts of the picture seem larger or smaller then other parts of the photograph. The drum kit in the background looks very small this is because it has been framed at the back of the stage, this makes it appear as if the drum kit is really far away especially with the person being very close to us and him appearing to be much larger. A low angle has been used to take the photograph this is good as it is able to show the guy as being powerful key as the camera is looking up at him.

This image has been taken so as that our focus is on all of the characters but so that we are pulled in by the central character. We are pulled in by the central character as her eye line is exactly at our eye line makes us immediately focus on her. The focus is also being put on her by the fact that she is pushed forward in front of the other people. The depth of field has also been used in this photograph by the way the people have been framed between an ally. This is able to give the picture depth and makes it appear more interesting. Cropping has been used to get rid of the peoles bodies this puts our focus more onto their faces and their expressions. By cropping out the front ladies hands they have been able to make appear as if she is holding the camera lense.

This image is interesting because out of the four models only one of them is actually looking at the centre as all the others are looking in opposite directions into the distance. This makes it seem as if the person looking at us is central to the band and is most important.  The model that is standing at the front, shows that he is the leader of the band and therefore has the most authority from four of the males.
Two of the models on the left hand side are wearing clothes whereas the other two are topless. From this we can infer that the genre of the magazine, may punk or rock. None of the characters have their bodies straight on this gives the image more perspective.
This makes the audience wonder what could be further than the picture is actually showing.
The shot that has been used in this image is a mid-shot this is good as it is able to more fully put our focus onto the models eye line and is able to put our focus on the focus point of the image.

This shot has been taken from straight on, this has been done because it is able to make us viewers to focus our attention onto the subject of the photo which is the person holding the guitar. The depth of field is not very deep as the muse band member is right at the front of the picture. This is able to make us look at the image of the person and the way that he is dressed and the way that he is holding the guitar. This image has been cropped to cut out the persons legs, this has been done so as that we look at the person and the guitar. This is because it is this part of the image which tells us about the genre of music through the rock guitar he is holding.

In this image rule of thirds have been used to shoot the band towards the right hand side of the page. This is able to make us look at the background of the image as well as the people. However we are still drawn into the part of the image with the people because of the fact that they are positioned at the front of the frame. The eye line of the characters match ours, this is effective because it is able to focus our attention onto them even though there is a large background. This image has cropped out the bands legs, this was done because if it hadnt our attention would be diverted away from the band members.

Our group images annotation.

In this photo we have used a high angle shot. By using this type on shot it is able to give the image more depth making it much more interesting. By placing each character of the photograph at different stairs and stages of the photograph foreground and background have been used. This gives the image a different perspective and makes it more attention-grabbing and thought-provoking. This is also pulls our attention into certain parts of the image such as the front ladies face. By placing the certain person at the front this is able to suggest that they are the front man in the band or the main vocalist.
This image has been shot so as that one character is at the main focus of the image this is done by putting them towards the front of the image making them appear larger in comparison to the other characters in the image which are further away.  Facial expressions have been used to convey a variety of personalities and identities. The body language shown is very relaxed. By not taking this image against the wall or against a flat surface it is able to make the image have more depth making it seem much more appealing to look at then if it were to have been a flat image against the wall.
This image is good as it doesn't shoot any of the characters flat against the surface, instead all of the characters are at different angles with their bodies. This makes the image more interesting and less flat giving it more perspective. the eyeline of all the characters is also all at different angles whcih makes the viewers wonder what they are looking at. to improve this image it could be zoome din on so that we can see the focus of the image better rather than the background.
This image is good because of the eyeline match that has been used. By having one of the characters eyeline matching the audiences helps to make the audience eel involved with the image and pulls in our attention. this puts a person in the foreground and a person in the background. This helps to put our attention onto the whole of the image. A high angle shot has been used this makes it appear as if the characters have no power as they are being lokked down on and are at a low levels. however it is a good use of camera as it is able to show us the people.

Dates and deadlines

Research and planning - 8th february
Magazine - 22 nd March
Evaluation - 26 th March

Props --> guitars - drums - Microphones
who - Band/My brothers band
where - Robananas recording studio / At their gigs / staged at home.
Costume - normal everyday clothes / Jeans - T-Shirt

My plan is to first take a selection of staged images. I will then edit these images. I will thern take more images which I feel will suit my magazine better. When staging the images i will get the models to acty casually and normally to give a certain message in the images. I will also get them to wear their everyday clothing so as that it does not look to fake.

design elements

Design elements

Colours

I will use colours such as red, yellows and blacks. I am thinking about using these colours because
were most used in real rock music magazine covers. I will use these colours because they are very bright so will standout over the rest of the page. The colours however are still able to present a certain mood which is shown in the rock music genre.  I will make the colours more dull s when looking at the colours they appeared to bright which could make the magazine appear more childish. By making the colours slightly duller they are still able to stand out but can also look professional at the same time. Each of the colours also go well together so it will allblend together. I will use these same colours throughout the magazine so that the whole magazine will blend togetherans it will be easily clear what magazine each page is from.

Font

I want the font on the cover to be relatively simple. This is so that it wont make the cover seem to complex or crowded. However it wnt it to be in a large and bold text so as that it is going to standout and immediately pull in peoples attention.

The heading looks like smashed glass therefore represents anger to show the rock backgrounds. The font used is still relatively simple so is easy to see and to read.

Images

In the double page spread I will use images which like this are able to show bands performing and who are in their own natural environment. This is because these sorts of tables are able to portray the bands well and can also make the audience feel involved as they may have been to these gigs or events which the bands does.

I want to use images on my front cover that use a medium shot because they are able to show body language and can give the portrayal of bands and rock music being very relaxed. Medium shots are also able to cover the most of a page so by using this shot on my magazine cover I will not have to do much to change the background. The eye line is directly at the audience I will do this in my work work as I think that it works well in engaging the audience into the story of the band and makes them feel part of the magazine rather than just spectators.

For the double page spread I might use images like this and like the beady eye double page spread i analysised. This kind of image uses rule of thirds so is able to frame the person into a certain position that will make the image look best. By framing the person on the right and having plain colour on the left it is able to show the person in the images perspective and the idea that they are thinking. The image also doesn't appear to cluttered so is very good to use. In some of the images I will make the eyeline not match the audiences this is because I think that it is able to make the readers think about what the muscician is thinking and kinda helps them to get into their minds and think the way that they would think.

I will use images like this in my double page spread. I like to use an image like this because I think that using a close up of a muscician will help to reflect their personality fully. By being able to focus on the facial expressions an image like this is able to make the audience stop and look at the image rather than just ignoring it, the image makes a big impact. When recreating this sort of image in my own photography for my own magazine I will focus on making sure the facial expressions are able to show personality aswell as their identity as a rock musician.

article ideas

Double Page Spread Article Plan

When writing my article I will make the language seem very casual by using informal language and slang.
I will base the article around a particular band because when researching and analysing other music magazines I found out that they would base a double page spread on a popular band which would pull in fans attention. This is because it is able to reach out to the target audience of people who enjoy the rock genre and have a casual style.

I will use a mixture of red, yellow and black in my article this is because these were the colours which were most used in real rock music magazine covers. I will use these colours because they are very bright so will standout over the rest of the page. The colours however are still able to present a certain mood which is shown in the rock music genre.

I will use very simple font styles as it will be able to be easily read by all the readers. I also want to keep the magazine relatively simple rather than it being to detailed and messy.
 ----->What will my article include:
 - focus on one band
 - details on upcoming albums or gigs
 - quotes and thoughts from the band I am focusing on
 -  stories which can relate directly to the audience.
 -  it could also include rhetorical questions which will interact the reader with the magazine making them keep an interest in the article

content page ideas

Contents Page Ideas!!!!

when looking at music magazines contents pages I have noticed that they normally contain titles with a little sentence that was from the actual article. They were also sometimes split into categories such as News, Features, Albums and Gigs Guide. I plan to use this same format when creating my own contents page.

My ideas for contents page titles :

Features -
 - Effluence - Teenage trio from Lancashire who sound like a violent Muse or incendiary Nirvana, also armed with great songs.

- Tom morello -  Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello is set to join Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on their Australian tour

 - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - John Mayer and Christina Aguilera are some of the stars set to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

- Asking Alexandria - 'It's a lot more mature than anything we've ever done before'.

Albums -
 - Biffy Clyro - Laid Bare - 'My music comes from the bit of my brain that isn't quite working...'

 - Black Veil Brides - Wretched the devine, The story of the wild ones.

 - Muse - The 2nd Law - Intergalactic rockers return with a typically outlandish sixth album.

Gigs -
- Foo Fighters - You Control The Music!! First Station To Let The Listeners Control What They Hear!!

 - Newton Faulkner's Uk Tour - Newton is thrilled to be recording select dates of his UK Tour

- Steriophonics - The band take their outstanding new album 'Graffiti on the Train' on the road in March for a tour of intimate UK venues

Planning

Planning

From the research I have gathered I have decided that i will create a rock genre music magazine. Whilst doing the research i have found that they were usually aimed towards the older teens to young adults. This could be seen through their use of informal language. It is this age range of 15 - 34 that appears to be most interested in the bands which are most interested in  the rock genre. The members of rock bands also tend to be slightly older resulting in an older target audience being brought in.  I will also aim my magazine to this same age range as it is this age range of people from 15-34 who are most interested in this genre of music. The rock magazines I have looked at are aimed at both males and females. This is shown trough their use of colours and the bands they have shown. I am going to aim my magazine to both males and females so as that it will have a wider target audience. By having the target audience as both male it female it puts no restrictions on to creating the magazine. I am going to create a rock music magazine for my magazine to appeal to people with a rock 'n' roll image who are more edge. In all the magazines I looked at all the bands and people in the magazine and in the bands were casually dressed or sometimes smart casual. This helps to show the idea that the audience viewing these types of magazine are very much normal every day people with chilled out attitudes and simple opinions. There interests were mostly on popular rock bands and their ways of life. I could also use darker colours to portray the idea that the rock genre involves a lot of anger and lacks emotion. They also were mostly interested in the general idea of rock music and all that involved. The audience of people looking at these types of magazine were also had interests in gigs and new music releases. I can involve this into my magazine by including these ideas into my article. When planning my music magazine I must insure that it will appeal to a wide spectrum of readers. I will make it so that it will appeal to the older teenagers who tend to be more open to a wide variety of music bands. However i will also make sure that it will still cater for people who want to know about the best bands in rock bands and music whilst still giving information on new bands and songs. The magazine will appeal to a specific audience because it will discuss stories that are relevant to people who listen to and are interested by rock music and its background.Kerrang! Identifies its audience as ‘individually minded, independent of thought and musically experienced, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty’. It is people who are like this that my magazine will also most appeal to so I will make sure that when writing the double page spread article that it will be relevant to peoples passion of rock music and will remain on the topic of rock music. Rather then trying to appeal to other audiences by writing about a wider genre of rock music.I will show that my magazine is aimed towards a younger audience by the use of fonts, images and presentation that i will use. I will make it more simplistic rather than it being to overly complicated. Most of the target audience for rock music magazines will be very contemporary and up to date with their looks. The writers of the kerrang magazine have said 'It is the edgy, underground and individualistic style appeals to rock readers and draws them in, this is a crucial element of any successful magazine'. I will try and use this advice when creating my magazine by using edgy and unique font styles and images.

Magazine title ideas and Why?

mgn - music and gossip now - This woud link to my magazine as it will be a magazine based around music and the top gossip on up coming bands. I have chosen to give it an abbreviated name as many of the magazines i researches used abbreviated names. This is able to make the magazine recognisable and easy to remember.
Amp Overload - This is a possible name because it is relevant to the genre of music and is very short and snappy. It is very simple and tells us that rock music is load and bold. This makes it more easy for people to remember.

12 string -This would relate to the genre of  music magazine I am going to create. Within most rock albums there will always be a guitar used in the backing music so I thought I could bring this into the name of the magazine and relate this together. Amp is also able to relate to how loud rock music is and the strength there is in the music.

Sounds of rock / real rock - Most rock music fans seem to be very passionate about music so by putting the word rock into the title of the magazine it is able to pull in their interest. It is also putting the genre of the music into the title so as that it is obvious that the genre of my magazine is rock.

Contents Page Planning

when looking at music magazines contents pages I have noticed that they normally contain titles with a little sentence that was from the actual article. They were also sometimes split into categories such as News, Features, Albums and Gigs Guide. I plan to use this same format when creating my own contents page.

My ideas for contents titles and info:

Features -
 - Effluence - Teenage trio from Lancashire who sound like a violent Muse or incendiary Nirvana, also armed with great songs.

Gigs -
- Foo Fighters - You Control The Music!!

Double page spread - rolling stone magazine!!!

Double Page Spread - Rolling Stones Magazine!

The image is extended over the whole of the double page spread. This could be because it is also able to tell as a narrative and a story. It is also able to accompany the text which has been written over the top of the image. The wording of the name of the title and the bands new album has been put into bolder and bigger writing then the actual article. This is so that the target audiences attention will be automatically caught. This will therefore make them want to carry on reading. The main article is all kept to one bottom corner suggesting it is less important then the the rest of the pages content
The bands body language is very casual so creates a relaxed atmosphere and feeling. The image is able to make us as spectators think about the band and their lifestyles and journey to get into music.
The whole content of the image has been shot in the top thirds. This means that the whole image is able to flow throughout the page even with the writing overlaying it. The use of empty coloured space on the image is useful as it is able to create a flowing double page spread rather then there being missing and empty gaps in the background.
The text used is very casual as if people were talking to each other. This is a positive thing to have in a magazine double page spread as it means that is easier for people to read and it helps people feel as if they are part of the magazine and the article rather then just spectators. The content is also very to the point rather then it just beating around the bush. This is able to condense the amount of writing that is on the page and means they are able to keep the readers interest rather then  just boring them.
